When you are facing cancer, you want to have the best doctors, operating at the best facility, providing the highest-quality compassionate care. The Division of Surgical Oncology at HackensackUMC is one of the busiest cancer departments in New Jersey. This is important because it means that our surgeons have the broad experience that is necessary to deal with every type of cancer. It also means that as a patient, you have access to the facilities and services that are only found in a world-class institution like HackensackUMC.
Our surgeons are all board-certified and have considerable post-graduate fellowship training. They use an evidence-based, collaborative approach to treatment. Evidence-based means that they consider the best available research results, along with their clinical expertise and your preferences, when developing your treatment plan. They also collaborate actively with other professionals on staff, including medical and radiation oncologists. This approach is designed to provide you with the most appropriate treatment and the best possible outcomes.
In the Division of Surgical Oncology, we treat both gastrointestinal and soft tissue malignancies with a full range of minimally invasive and traditional surgical techniques. Our surgeons perform a variety of procedures from simple localized excisions to complex and sophisticated resection. Gastrointestinal malignancies include esophageal, stomach, pancreas, liver, colon, and rectal cancers. Soft tissue malignancies include melanoma, sarcoma, and breast cancer. Because every patient and every case is different, each procedure is carefully planned to ensure the most favorable outcomes. Minimally invasive surgical techniques are used where possible to decrease post-operative pain and reduce healing time.
