HackensackUMC, a nonprofit teaching and research hospital located in Bergen County, NJ, is the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services in the state. HackensackUMC’s Bariatric Surgery program (including Gastric Stapling and Gastric Banding) has been recognized as a Blue Distinction Center (BDC) and a Blue Distinction Center+ (BDC+) by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. These BDCs are part of a national designation program that recognizes facilities that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality specialty care, safely and effectively. To earn the BDC+ designation, facilities must meet the same quality criteria as Blue Distinction enters, and go an extra step to demonstrate that they do so cost efficiently.
